That OneNote desktop app was called "OneNote 2016" back then, and it's still possible to use it. More than three years ago, Microsoft had indicated that the OneNote for Windows 10 app was going to be the successor to the OneNote desktop app available to Office 2019 and Microsoft 365 users. Microsoft's announcement of the new OneNote app may seem somewhat familiar. We will follow up with the full list of features in a future announcement. While we won't be incorporating the entire list of features from OneNote for Windows 10 into the OneNote app, we are working to ensure that all the most loved features will continue to be a part of OneNote. Here's Microsoft's statement to that effect:
The new OneNote app, expected sometime in the second half of 2022, isn't going to have all of the features found in the OneNote for Windows 10 app. Microsoft also optionally sells "premium" OneNote features, which are available to Office 2019 and Microsoft 365 OneNote users. OneNote is offered for free, and the various app versions for different operating systems are described in this document. It doesn't apply to Android, iOS, macOS and Web browser users of the OneNote app. Microsoft's announcement regarding the new OneNote app just applies to Windows 10 and future Windows 11 users. "After the in-app invitation is available, we recommend updating to the OneNote app by October 2025 when both Windows 10 and OneNote for Windows 10 will reach end-of-support," the announcement indicated. 14, 2025 is Microsoft's final deadline to ensure that the new OneNote app is in place. It's still unclear when we can expect them to arrive, but hopefully it won't be much longer.Oct. Microsoft is also making it easier to add pictures using your PC's webcam directly in OneNote, so you can quickly scan an article or something else you're reading, and if you're an Office Insider, this is something you can try right now.įinally, there's the ability to sort your pages using a few different sorting methods - another one of the features that's already available to everyone - and a new share experience that makes it easier to copy a link to the current notebook, send it to someone else, or manage who has access to it. Dictation will also support the same features it does in other Office apps, so you can ask it to delete what you wrote last, for example. It will also soon be possible to dictate text into OneNote so you can speak to write your notes.
